Hot Reads for Cold Nights - With winter official here now is a good time to curl up with a good book and a cup of hot chocolate. To get you started, the Tawas City Friends of the Library are having it's 6th annual "Hot Reads for Cold Nights", Jan. 7th through March 30th. Stop by the Tawas City Library and pick up a bookshelf bingo game sheet and enter the contest. Keep track of your reading and fill in the game sheet with your book titles in the appropriate squares. Turn in your completed game sheet for an entry to the contest, multiple entries are encouraged. Weekly drawings will be held to win gift certificates to local businesses. A grand drawing will be held April 1st for a $50 gift certificate to Neiman's Family Market in Tawas City. For more info please call the Tawas Library at (989)362-6557.
Market Day - Shore Line Players of Oscoda will be holding Market Day, Jan. 19th, Feb. 16th, Mar. 16th, and Apr. 20th, at the theater from 10am to 5pm. Stop by and see what's "in store" at the theater. Vendors vary every month.
Comedy Show - Come and enjoy the Slapstick Comedy of the Red Wing's Legend Darren McCarty. The show will be held Friday, January 25th at 7pm, at the K of C Hall located at 821 Newman St., East Tawas. Tickets are $25 and benefit the Girls Varsity Soccer Team. Darren takes off the gloves and shares a night of stories, jokes, new memories, and an audience question and answer section. After the show there is a full meet n greet and time for selfies with D-Mac! Also appearing Northern Michigan's own native son Jason Douglas. So come on out for a night of laughter and fun.
Vendor Show - Beat The Winter Blues Vendor Show will be held at the VFW Post #3735, Chrysler Rd., Oscoda on Jan. 26th, from 12pm to 3pm. There will be a host of vendors for you to brouse. Lunch will be available to purchase.
Shoreline Players - The Shoreline Players will be presenting a murder mystery "Sour Grapes of Rath", Sat. Jan. 26th, at the Camp Inn Lodge, 3111 N. US 23, Oscoda. Doors open at 5:30pm with dinner served at 6:30. Advanced tickets $25.00 per person, $30 at the door.

Quilt Show - The Northeast Michigan Arts Council's 29th annual Quilt Show will be held the weekend of Jan. 26th and 27th. It will be held at the Northeast Art Center in Standish from 10am to 4pm both days.
Perchville USA 2019 - The 69th Annual Perchville celebration will be Jan. 31st thru Feb. 3rd here in the Tawases. The fun starts with the Coronation Breakfast on Saturday, Jan. 26th at 10am at the East Tawas Community center on Newman St, the Royal Feast will be held on Jan. 31st at Mr. Jack'ss from 5:30pm to 9pm. Chili Cookoff will be on Sat. Feb 2nd in downtown East Tawas at local shops. The Polar Bear Swim will be held Sat. Feb. 2nd and Sun. Feb. 3rd at the East Tawas State Dock, with registration starting at 11am on Saturday and noon on Sunday. Swims on Saturday will be at 1:30pm and 3:30pm, and Sunday at 1:30pm. Hospitality tent will be open Friday, Feb. 1st from 5pm to 9pm, and Saturday, Feb. 2nd from noon to 8pm. Drag Races, Family Murder Mystery, Frozen Chosen Shooting Event will be announced soon. The Perchville Parade will be held Saturday, Feb. 2nd at 11am.
Oscoda Basketball Tournament - Oscoda High School and Oscoda Elementary School will be holding a Basketball Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 2nd, with times to be determined. It is open to the 6th throught 8th grade, both boys and girls, with each grade having their own brackets. Guaranteed 3 games. Cost is $100 per team. Cub Scout Fundraiser - Come celebrate Valentine's Day and spend an evening dancing at a Father-Daughter, Mother-Son Dance, Feb. 9th, from 7pm to 10pm, at Tawas United Methodist Church Gym. Cost is $5.00 per person. All funds raised will go directly to the Cub Scouts to cover the cost of their activities and adventures. It will also help pay for awards that the Scouts work so hard to earn. Refreshments will be provided.
Mid Winter Dance - A Mid-Winter Night's Dance will be held Saturday, Feb. 9th from 7:30pm to 10:30pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall in East Tawas, with the doors opening at 7pm. Come dance the night away with music from the 50's & 60's Country and Old Time Rock & Roll. Featuring Kountry Klass Variety Band. Tickets are $10.00 each and are available in advance and at the door. There will also be a cash bar and refreshments available for purchase. Proceeds to benefit the Knights of Columbus & Harbor Lights Pregnancy and Information Center.
Snowmobile Racing - Coming to Alcona Recreational Area in Lincoln, The Fire Rite 250, Saturday, Feb. 16th and Sunday, Feb. 17th. This is the only stop in the area for MIRA, the Midwest International Racing Association, it's a professional oval track snowmobile racing at it's best since 1979. Saturday starting at 8:25am come on out and enjoy Pro Enduro hot laps and qualifying to lock in the top 10 starting spots for Sunday's 250 Pro Enduro Race. There will also be Sprint Classes with 3 lap heats, and 5 lap finals. The Enduro for Superstock and Sportsman will also be run on Saturday. Line up for Sunday fun starts at 10am with Pro Enduro hot laps and second round of qualifying to set the rest of the field. Children's Craft-n-Card - A Granny King art project will be held at the Robert J. Parks Library in Oscoda, Sat. Feb. 9th from 10am to 11am. Bring the kids and learn about blending and burnishing colors as you draw different objects and finish with a Valentine to take home. This is a free class and supplies will be provided.
