Our Heritage Monthly Lecture Series - Iosco County Historical Society will be presenting a monthly lecture series featuring Lugene Danies, at the Iosco County Historical Museum at 6:30pm, every third Wednesday. This months lecture is May 16th, and will talk about the "Amazing Great Lakes & Islands". So come and enjoy lectures about the amazing history of our great State of Michigan.
Tawas Point Migration 2018 - Ausable Valley Audubon will host "Tawas Point Migration", Thursday, May 17th through Saturday, May 19th. A large assortment of evening and daytime guided field trips at East Tawas State Park, Tuttle Marsh, Loon Lake Nature Park, Hale and Huron National Forest. Birds of Prey - AuSable Valley Audubon Society is hosting Family Day with "Live Birds of Prey", Saturday, May 19th from 10am to 4pm, at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 821 Newman St., East Tawas. This show is in conjunction with the Tawas Point Migration 2018. See the Live Birds at 11am to 12pm and again from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. There will be hands on activities too. Cost is Free for ages 16 and under with accompanying adult paying $5.00.
Spring Fling Concert - Oscoda Community Center Presents a Spring Fling Concert featuring "The Shoreline Jazz Masters". The concert is Saturday, May 19th with the show from 6:30 pm to 9 pm at the Oscoda Community Center. Tickets are $5 for bleacher seats, $10 for preferred seats, and $20 family bleacher seats. Wurtsmith Air Museum - Museum will be opening Saturday, May 19th and May 20th for "Armed Forces Day" from 11am to 3pm. Free admission for this weekend only. "25th Anniversary of the Wurtsmith Air Force Base Closure" will take place June 22nd thru June 24th to honor WAFB veterans with reunions, and special events. 6th Annual Holy Spokes Bicycle Tour - The tour will start Saturday, May 26th at 9:30am with registration at 8:30am at the Oscoda United Methodist Church with three different rides. Brewed in Michigan - Wiltse's Brew Pub and the Iosco Arenac District Library will be hosting a special program Thursday, May 31st from 7pm to 8:30pm at Wiltse's Brew Pub. The program will have 2018 Notable author William Rapai who will share the unique stories, history and future of Michigan's craft beer artisans and breweries revealed in his award winning book "Brewed in Michigan". Throughout the presentation there will be a guided tasting for attendees who purchase a flight of beer. This is free and open to the public. Ride For RugRats - Fundraiser to support "Helping 2 Overcome", Saturday, June 2nd starting and finishing at Twisted Twinz Emporium, 1131 W. Lake St., Tawas City, next to the Tawas Moose Lodge. The fun starts with Sign In at 10am, Kick Stands up at Noon with a 4pm return. The fun continues with Dinner starting at 4:30pm, and Auction at 5:30pm. Then the fun kicks up a notch with the music of "Hipakritz" from 6:30pm to 10:30pm. $15 includes the Ride, Dinner, and Entertainment or $10 for Dinner and Entertainment. The Dinner and Entertainment will take place at the Tawas Moose Lounge where there will also be a Cash Bar.
Tawas Point Lighthouse - Come join us on Saturday, June 9th at 4pm for the dedication of a Michigan Historical Marker at the Tawas Point Lighthouse at the Tawas Point State Park. The marker will tell the story of our 142 year old lighthouse and its significance in Michigan maritime history. Vernors Ginger Ale floats will be a part of the celebration to commemorate the selection of Tawas Point Lighthouse in the first teaming of the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and Pure Michigan campaign to release a limit edition can of the popular ginger ale that will feature 5 Michigan Lighthouses with Tawas Point Lighthouse being one of them. Although there is no fee to attend the event, you will need to enter the State Park so your vehicle will need a valid Recreational Passport to enter. Free Fishing Weekend - Take the whole family to your favorited fishing hole....June 9th and June 10th is the annual Michigan Free Fishing Weekend. Free Fishing starts at 6am on June 9th and ends at 11pm on June 10th. So grab your fishing poles, and some worms and head on out to the water for some fishing fun.
Oscoda Class of 2019 - A benefit 4 Person Putt-Putt Golf Scramble will be held Thursday, June 14th at Hunt's Canoe & Miniature Golf. Registration starts at 5pm, with a 6pm start. All proceeds will benefit the Senior Trip & All Night Party.
Sunrise Solstice Art and Music Festival - The Festival will be held Saturday, June 16th from 6am to 11pm, at the Shoreline Park in Tawas City. There will be an art competition, with artist registering online and then get their canvas stamped on the morning of the 16th. They may then go and paint anywhere in the Tawas area, and return their completed work by 5pm for voting by the festival goers. First place earns $500.00, Second place is $300.00, and Third place is $200.00. There will also be live bands at the Towne Square in the afternoon until 9pm. Many more activities to come, so please keep an eye on their web site at www.sunrisesolstice.org. Proceeds to benefit Tawas Area High School fine arts (visual and musical) and student athletes. Breeze On Tawas Bay - Come and enjoy kite flying for all ages, Saturday, June 2nd from 10am to 6pm on beautiful Tawas Bay. This is a free fun filled day of kite flying for the young and old alike. Tawas Point Celebration Days - With many activities for the family to enjoy, starting Saturday, June 11th, from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday, June 12th, from 10am to 4pm. So come and enjoy the activities from historical and educational displays, lighthouse tours (cost is $2), demonstrations of traditional crafts, such as spinning, weaving, blacksmithing, and wood carving. Alpena Blues Festival - "Help Stamp Out Hunger With The Blues", presented by The Alpena Blues Coalition will be held Saturday, June 16th, from 12pm to 12am. So come and enjoy some of the best Blues Bands around. Tickets are on sale now with the price of only $20 there is camping also available at the Alpena Fair Grounds. Michigan Fallen Military Memorial Wall - There will be a Motorcycle Escort for the Michigan Fallen Military Memorial Wall on Saturday, June 23rd. Line up will be at the Shoreline Park in Tawas City, with line up starting at 8am, and kickstands up at approximately 9am. All motorcycles and riders are welcome, and the route will be from the Shoreline Park on US 23, through Tawas, East Tawas, and Oscoda to final destination, Oscoda Veterans Memorial Park (near circle of flags on the old Wurtsmith AFB). Law Enforcement Assisted Ride. Memorial Wall will be set up and on display all day Saturday, June 23rd as part of the Oscoda Veterans Memorial Park Musicfest. Free admission and viewing of the Memorial Wall for everyone.
Shore Fun Beach Run - HealthQuest is holding it's 2nd Annual Shore Fun Beach Run will take place on Saturday, June 23rd at 10am with registration at the Oscoda Beach Park Bandshell. There will be a 5k Beach run/walk which starts at 11am, and a 1 mile Kids Beach run/walk at Noon, so come on out and enjoy one of the only runs in Michigan that takes place entirely on the sand. Check out our Sister event "Art on the Beach" happening a block away. Fees are before June 22nd are $25 for the 5k, and $5 for the Kids run, Day of Race $30 for the 5k and $10 for the Kids run/walk. Music Fest 2018 - The festival will be at the Oscoda Veterans Memorial Park on the former Wurtsmith Air Force Base, Friday, June 22nd and Saturday, June 23rd. Admission is $10 per day with the entertainment to start about 7pm both nights. Proceeds to benefit ongoing development of the Veterans Memorial Park. Smokey The Bear - Come to the Harrisville State Park, Saturday, July 7th, to visit and take pictures with "Smokey The Bear". He will be at Host site #2 from 11am until Noon, then follow him into town for the Children's Parade at 1pm that goes thru downtown Harrisville. Then stay into the evening and enjoy the fireworks from the Harrisville Harbor. Fireworks are also viewable from the day use beach at the Harrisville State Park. A current Recreational Passport is required to enter the State Park.
